ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR: BS7671 17TH EDITION UPDATES
Instructions on Installing the update 17th edition update
Please follow this sequence...
Preparing your PC and Handheld for the update
Transfer to the PC all certificates held by the handheld. This is necessary because the updated handheld database is not compatible with earlier certificates
Once the update has been installed it will not be possible to create BS7671 certificates in 16th Edition format. The program will only create 17th Edition versions.
If it is likely that certificates may have to be created for jobs started before 1 July 2008, create some for each certificate type, leaving the details blank. They can then be completed when the work is complete.
All the required data will now be held in the PC's database. Take an archive - Main Menu, System Management, Archiving, Create Archive. This is just a precaution: the update does not affect the PC database
Uninstall Electrical Inspector from the handheld. On the handheld Home screen tap the time (top left), Delect, select EI and confirm that it is to be removed.
Downloading the update
Visit tap-it-software.co.uk, navigate to the appropriate update version - BS7671, NICEIC Domestic Installer or NICEIC Enrolled Contractor - and follow the procedure.
Save the downloaded file in MyDocuments on the PC. (Any other location may be used, if preferred) Depending upon the option chosen the file will be called ei17_bs_update.exe, or ei17_di_update.exe or ei17_en_update.exe
Use MyComputer to locate the file and double click its name. Follow the instructions on the screen
Updating from a CD
Load the CD and, if it does not run the program automatically, use MyComputer to locate the file on the CD and then double click its name. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Once the update has been installed on the PC, follow the normal procedure for installing (the updated) software on the handheld.
Registration
Finally, register the receipt of the update by emailling codes A and B from the Option Management screen (Main Menu, System Management, Option Management) and the program's Serial Number to sales_desk@tap-it-software.co.uk.
The appropriate authorisation code will be sent by email on the next working day. This must be entered on the Option Management screen as Code 1.
